Images from top to bottom: 1. Cover only 2. Full dust jacket design with author bio and book description 3. Title page 4. Full spread with speech bubbles I created in Illustrator 5. Another full spread 6. The copyright and dedication page. The author wanted to use the racing checks on the endpapers, but for cost purposes it wasn't possible. So, I added this touch to the side of the copyright page to tie it into the story and give him at least some of what he had envisioned.
The 8x8 Cookbook
PROJECT Create a cover and interior design for a cookbook for Burnt Cheese Press. The finished book was featured on oprah.com. Available on Amazon.
Designed the interior for The 8x8 Cookbook, creating a working index, managing and adjusting photos, and building on the book cover concept (pan icon illustration, colors, and fonts).
Cooking with Noni
PROJECT Design the cover and interior of a book of family stories and rustic Italian and classic American recipes for self-publishing author. I also created several watercolor and digital illustrations for use on the cover and interior. Cooking with Noni is available on Amazon.
The Grand Lady of the Lake
PROJECT Designed the cover and interior for a self-publisher's non-fiction book about the history of Yellowstone's Lake Hotel. I illustrated (based on a wallpaper design by William Morris) and designed the cover. I also created a versatile interior layout with typefaces matching the hotel's construction era—the 1890's. The Grand Lady of the Lake is available on Amazon.
None Call Me Dad
PROJECT Create a book cover for a nonfiction book about the adventures of the parent of older adopted children. The cover design was a twist on the pop culture mug saying, "World's Best Dad."
I also designed the interior and eBook for this project.
The cover design was conceived of partly as a marketing tool: the travel mug concept replaced a ceramic mug playing on the ideas of temporary, replacement, and the travels of his kids, and allowing for the artwork to be reused on real travel mugs—for book promotion. None Call Me Dad is available on Amazon.
I illustrated and designed a cover for this fiction book that's based on a true story about a Lake Oswego coach. This is the latest novel by Oregonian columnist, Steve Duin. The Less We Touch is available on Amazon.
Create a book cover design for the Ooligan Press title, Up Nights, about four friends who embark on an existential journey, described as having unrelenting prose and complexities of human relationships.
Wax Bullet War
Design a cover for a contemporary war memoir portraying the trials of an artist/soldier who suffers from PTSD.
The Ninth Day
Design a book cover for a Young Adult novel, The Ninth Day, a companion book to Blue Thread, by Ruth Tenzer Feldman. The genre was historical fiction and fantasy. The premise of the story was that a Jewish teenager from the 1960s time travels (using a thread from a magical payer shawl) back to the 1100s to save a special baby.
